A team of developers are looking to erect a pair of 410-foot condominium towers where the Miami Beach Marina is currently located. This news has gotten particular attention since the developer has also promised to contribute $100 million towards Miami Beach’s proposed light rail system intended to relieve the city’s ongoing traffic concerns.
The developer’s intention is to develop the waterfront land found where the Monty’s Sunset restaurant is located. Should the plans go as expected, the two buildings would have a combined total of 250 units plus an underground parking garage with space for up to 700 vehicles. One of the two towers would also have a restaurant and retail space and there are also plans for a public park.
The condominium tower does face hurdles, namely the fact that voters have rejected high-rise proposals twice now. Since the marina is owned by the city, it must be approved by voters. To appease voters, the developer says that it would like community input. There are also hopes to have the project up for vote during the November ballot as it would likely draw an increased number of voters due to the presidential elections.
